大稻埕的老故事 x 變色印花 x 互動式空間
『打造一間印花覆蓋的空間、一個隨著觀者的體溫而改變顏色的空間。』
這是一間觀者可自行走動並與傢俱互動的空間。臥房的傢俱擺設都用印花布製作,不論是座椅、地毯、布幔,都有豐富的印花圖樣覆蓋著。這些布製傢具透過特殊染法製作,在與人體接觸後,會隨著溫度而改變顏色。
溫熱的手心碰觸著、微涼的臂膀輕倚著,一間臥房在一個人、一對人、一群人的互動中,漸漸地改變了既有的色彩與樣貌。
印花圖像來自於大稻埕的老故事。大稻埕自百餘年來就是一個代代傳承、充滿著人與人的人情溫度的,商業與家族的活歷史,也是藝文、自由思潮、國際化的薈萃所在。
融合古今,串流中西、融合新舊,一直不斷創造出大稻埕的蓬勃與盎然,這是所有的人來到這兒就會愛上她的原因。
布與茶與人情事故一直是大稻埕很基本的元素。Angela從英國學習最當代的時尚藝術歸來,遇到了一直沒有離開過大稻埕的Emilie,跨世代、跨領域的我們,依然以溫暖的印花,相知相惜,我們相信,關於以印花來表達大稻埕的精彩故事這任務才剛剛開始...
Emilie的父親也曾經營過茶行,是上海商人渡海親訪的對象,茶香、茶街、茶... 一直伴隨著Emilie長大...
把記憶中飄散的包種茶香與茶杯溫度、轉譯為優雅而又有互動趣味的印花與織布,是一種織品與時尚的創新藝術。這是一個深深愛著印花、與深深愛著大稻埕的一對好友 所共同創作的展。
Emilie給稻江的情書 是努力以文字及口述 傳承美好如神話傳奇般的故事,而Angela被Emilie所說的故事感動後,用她最擅長的印花作為語彙,與Emilie一起神遊前人的愛情神話後... 這封有溫度、有印花、還原當年愛情神話(現在還在進行中)的情書,給稻江的情書,就這樣子自然而然地從Angela的腦中蹦出來了...

The Historic Tales of Dadaocheng x Colour Changing Prints x Interactive Living Space
"One Love, Letter to Daojiang" is an art installation developed from viewer interactive experience, an artist collaboration between Angela Chiang and Emilie Tsai for the 2019 Taipei Free Art Fair exhibition based in Taipei City, Taiwan.
The creative duo merged their distinct upbringings into the fundaments of this art installation: Emilie's growing up experience in one of Taiwan's richest heritage districts - Dadaocheng (大稻埕), and Angela's unique take on textiles as art designed with interactive technology.
The two created an interactive space covered entirely in screen printed patterns that changed colour upon the audience's touch. The pattern story is inspired from Dadaocheng's grain industry (碾米廠) almost one hundred years ago during Taiwan's economy rapid growth era. The hand illustrated grains resemble the golden age of our ancestor's hard works. Yet with the colour-changing printing design, the originally green-cooured grains would gradually turned into colours of yellow, representing the joyous harvest period and the thriving of life's cycle.
The installation is named after one of Dadaocheng (大稻埕) 's other name "Daojiang (稻江)", a poetic version derived from each character's verbal meanings: "Dao (稻)" for the grains, and "Jiang (江)" as the river.
The installation is curated in layers of printed fabrics (The textile industry also resembles one of Dadaocheng's golden economic growths), with metres of fabrics attached onto wooden door frames, creating an entrance within entrance, leading the viewers into pages of Daojiang's story. The art installation is completed when the viewers are present, as their temperature gives the prints the symbolic shifts in colours, as our tribute to the significant history breathing life into generations of families.
